Support groups in Montgomery County
Support groups are where Montgomery County shows off its homeschool community. The Woodlands carries the most, and Magnolia, Montgomery and Conroe add their own. The groups are membership-based and meet in person, and they range from broad, all-inclusive networks to explicitly secular ones, so the first job is finding the group that matches how your family homeschools.
That variety is useful in practice. A support group is usually where you learn which co-op has an opening, which tutor is worth the drive, and how another family handled the state's paperwork. In a county where a good co-op can sit a long way from home, that information mostly travels by word of mouth, and a lot of it happens in online groups this directory has not mapped.
Most support groups charge little or nothing, and TEFA rarely comes into it, because these groups do not sell instruction and the program's categories do not apply to them. Before you join, ask about dues, how often the group meets, and whether families at every grade level and every teaching approach are welcome.
