Support groups in Houston
Support groups and communities are the informal backbone of a lot of Houston homeschooling: park days, moms' groups, prayer groups, and online communities where families ask questions, share encouragement, and find their people, without the academic structure of a co-op. For a lot of families, especially in the first year, this is where the real support actually happens.
This fits any family wanting connection and information without paying for or committing to a class schedule. Cost is usually free or a small nominal fee for things like a park reservation. There's no grade or age structure here, since these groups are social first.
What to ask:
- Whether the group is genuinely active: recent posts, a recent meetup, something dated this year
- Typical group size and whether new families are actually welcomed
- Any stated faith alignment, if the group has one
- In-person, online-only, or both
On TEFA: this generally isn't a funding question at all, since these groups aren't set up to sell anything. That's by design. Not everything in homeschooling needs to run through a funding program.
For the academic-schedule version of the same community, compare this against Homeschool Co-ops.

Featured programs are paid placements and appear first. Some programs also pay for a larger profile, which never changes the order. Every listing here is free. How we make money.
