West Houston/Memorial has one of the widest private-school mixes in the metro, and it runs across four areas: Spring Branch, Alief, Memorial and the Energy Corridor. Catholic and Christian private schools sit alongside schools with no stated faith, and at least one Muslim school is part of the mix. That range reflects a corridor that runs from some of Houston's most affluent neighborhoods to one of its most diverse.
Grades run from Pre-K through twelfth, with art, music, PE, foreign language, math and drama named as regular subjects. Most schools do not state a faith requirement, and those that do are mostly open to families outside their own church. One school lists a four-day schedule, which is worth knowing if you want a longer weekend.
Memorial and Spring Branch are about three minutes apart, so they share the same schools in practice. Alief is further southwest, and Bellaire, Meyerland and West University Place are 10 to 13 minutes from Memorial and Spring Branch.
On TEFA, accreditation sets the tier: up to $10,474 a year with a TEPSAC-recognized agency and two years at a Texas campus, and $2,000 without it. If a child has an IEP and attends an accredited school, the award can be higher still, up to $30,000.
Featured programs are paid placements and appear first. Some programs also pay for a larger profile, which never changes the order. Every listing here is free. How we make money.
